United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that an Eagle Butte woman, charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, was sentenced on March 6, 2012, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Robin Chasing Hawk, age 28, was sentenced to 15 months in custody, 3 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.
Robin Chasing Hawk was indicted for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury by a federal grand jury on September 13, 2011. The conviction was the result of an incident that occurred on August 26, 2011. On that date, Chasing Hawk got into an argument with the victim near No Heart Housing in Eagle Butte. Chasing Hawk then drove a vehicle at the victim, hitting her. As a result of the car-pedestrian crash, the victim suffered a fractured neck and a fractured pelvis. Robin Chasing Hawk pled guilty to Assault with a Dangerous Weapon on December 13, 2011.
This case was investigated by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division. Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson prosecuted the case.
Chasing Hawk was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal to begin serving her sentence.
